Skills Lab

In comparison to medical studies that use traditional structures, the Brandenburg medical study program brings new requirements on teachers, students, and training by using an interdisciplinary curriculum.

The medical studies at the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB, short for "Medizinische Hochschule Brandenburg Theodor Fontane") also sets itself apart by its decentralized character: while the students start their studies in Neuruppin (semester 1-4), they continue in Brandenburg an der Havel for semesters 5-7. During the semesters 8-10, the students are divided in small groups and continue their activities in different clinics throughout the German state of Brandenburg.

The Skills Lab of MHB is one of the few German Skills Labs that is certified by the "Practical Skills Committee" of the German "Society for Medical Education" (Gesellschaft für Medizinische Ausbildung, GMA).

It is the central teaching and learning location for students studying human medicine, dentistry or psychology. It also offers the opportunity to learn from and with each other in an interprofessional setting with trainees from other healthcare professions. Taught skills are tested at the end of each semester in objective structured clinical examinations.

The Skills Lab has various teaching and learning rooms for different teaching formats and self-study. The equipment includes a variety of examination instruments, models and skills trainers. It is also possible to train clinical scenarios in simulation rooms. The tutors at the Skills Lab offer peer-teaching tutorials to match the modules of the respective degree programs.

These resources are also available for doctors and other health professions looking for further education.
