The health care system in the state of Brandenburg faces a variety of challenges in the provision of health care: The disease burden of age-associated diseases is increasing and leads to multiple illnesses of the patients. Limited resources are available in the rural health care structures for health care in the non-metropolitan regions. Our vision is to ensure optimal care for patients in the rural area of Brandenburg in the long term through research and education. Therefore, MHB consistently focuses its research on aging people and their individual needs in rural areas.

The scientific orientation of the MHB is characterized by its role as the first academic medical institution in the state of Brandenburg, the networking with the existing university and scientific structures in Brandenburg. The research concept of the MHB pursues the goal of establishing university research in clinical and outpatient medicine in the state of Brandenburg and thus contributing to improving the understanding - and, as a result, the quality - of health care in a Flächenland. The research of the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology is dedicated to the focus of "patient-centered healthcare for the aging society".
Health science aspects of the "Faculty of Health Sciences" are integrated into research via joint research structures, in particular the research centers.
