Institute of Translational Immunology
Recent research has documented the significance of immunological processes in almost all diseases. Findings are already sufficiently advanced for therapeutic use in the context of oncological diagnostics and therapy. In contrast, cardiovascular immunology is not yet established to the same degree, but interesting starting points are emerging for potential clinical applications. The planned focus at the Institute is a specialized approach to issues of clinical relevance in the cardiovascular field. The aim is to identify immunological mechanisms in arteriosclerosis and cardiac insufficiency, and to analyze possibilities of immunomodulation.
Prof. Dr. Barbara Seliger holds an FGW professorship of Translational Immunology in Cardiovascular Disease with an emphasis on Translational Tumor Immunology at the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB). She directs the Institute of Translational Immunology.
In support of the new institute the MHB is building up an interdisciplinary database for biomaterial and biodata. A key assignment for the professorship is to transfer results from basic immunological research to clinical research and routines. This includes diagnostic as well as therapeutic aspects.
