Brilliant MHB sports teams
Victories and top performance in team relay and dragon boat race
Brandenburg an der Havel/Neuruppin, 31 May 2024
Sports teams of the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) showed excellent performance over the past month: In the 8th mixed-team relay of a sports event regularly hosted by the Brandenburg public utility company StWB, the team “MHBlitze” again took first place. The team “Flotte MHB” came in second in a dragon boat race in Neuruppin, at the traditional May and harbor festival.
The winning mixed team “MHBlitze” of 22 May, made up of Jonas Wördemann (practical year/anesthesiology/UKB), Fabian Griep (MHB, 13th semester), Jan Auswitz (MHB, 15th semester after research year) and Sonja Jahnke (practical year/surgery/UKB), mastered the course in 1:22:48 h. and won by a large margin. Beating last year’s time, they underlined their
dominant position and celebrated a victory for the third year in a row. Their reward was a 3-liter weissbier glass and a voucher to participate in next year’s race. The event attracted 317 relay teams with a total of 1,268 participants, whereby the Universitätsklinikum an der Havel (UKB) was represented by over 30 teams.
"Flotte MHB" takes second place in little final of dragon boat race
The May and harbor festival in Neuruppin was the setting for the team “Flotte MHB” to demonstrate their skills in the traditional dragon boat race. Jens Winter from the local canoe club started in April to coach the team of MHB students, staff and supporters on the Ruppiner See. And all that hard work paid off, with excellent results of less than a minute over 250 m in the preliminary heats (best: 58:089 seconds). In the tight consolation final, the MHB team fought for a top position and came in second with 58:911 s.
Loud cheers greeted the announcement of results, rankings and times at the awards ceremony. In addition to the certificate, all team members received medals and lots of praise from MHB president Prof. Hans-Uwe Simon and fellow students who had spurred them on from the shore.
Coach Jens Winter was enthusiastic about the performance and convinced that the team will reach the final A next year and end up in the first half of participants. “Flotte MHB” is highly motivated to take up this challenge and once again give their best next year.
MHB sports teams have performed impressively over the past month, winning awards and medals in the above races, and consolidating the reputation of the MHB as a sporty and active university.
