Vascular surgeon to become new vice president
Neuruppin, 09 March 2022
The MHB Senate elected Prof. Dr. med. Irene Hinterseher as the first vice president of the Brandenburg Medical School in its meeting on 3 March 2022.
Prof. Dr. Hinterseher is in charge of vascular surgery at the Ruppiner Kliniken, an MHB university hospital in Neuruppin, since 2021. The specialist in general and vascular surgery came from the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin where she worked at the clinic of vascular surgery as a senior physician. As vice president-elect she plans to focus on equal opportunities and sustainability and on deepening contacts to associated hospitals.
In a first statement Prof. Hinterseher said she is looking forward to the new assignment and grateful for the trust placed in her. Having been trained as a tutor of Problem-Oriented Learning (POL) during her residency in Dresden, she found the science- and practice-based MHB concept immediately convincing: “As a clinician I have an inside view into many MHB sections and plan to use this position in order to generate more attention for the perspective of staff and students at the level of the university management. I shall represent academia on the executive board and intend to build bridges between Senate, Faculty and the Board.”
MHB president Prof. Dr. Hans-Uwe Simon welcomes the expansion of the MHB executive board to three members and expects additional impetus in developing the MHB further together with Prof. Hinterseher and Chancellor Dr. Gerrit Fleige. The election of Prof. Hinterseher, so Prof. Simon, is in line with the general strategy to increase the proportion of younger and female persons in the university management.
After medical studies at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg from 1993 to 1999, Prof. Dr. Hinterseher received her doctorate in 2001. She spent a residency in Dresden and a research period in the United States as a scholar of the German Research Foundation. She acquired the postdoctoral lecturing qualification in surgery in Dresden in 2012 with a thesis on abdominal aortic aneurysms. In the same year she changed over to the Charité and in 2021 accepted the MHB offer of a professorship (analogous to pay grade W3) of vascular surgery.
Prof. Dr. Hinterseher will take office on 1 May 2022.
