Updated information on Corona virus (SARS-CoV-2)
MHB returns to classroom instruction
Neuruppin, 4 April 2022
Dear students and teachers,
the Brandenburg government has issued a decree on basic action of SARS-CoV-2 infection control: SARS-CoV-2-Infektionsschutz-Basismaßnahmenverordnung. The decree entered into force on 3 April 2022, replaces previously issued regulations (3. SARS-CoV-2-EindV) and is initially valid up to and including 30 April 2022. It is based on an amendment of federal infection control regulations (§ 28a/7, Infektionsschutzgesetz or IfSG), limiting the range of basic infection control measures which the federal states may issue without parliamentary resolution. The Brandenburg government is unanimous in underlining that the pandemic is not over yet and urging everybody to act responsibly in order to protect vulnerable sections of society.
Pursuant to the principle of “freedom and accountability”, the Brandenburg Medical School amends its concept of hygiene for teaching in the summer term which starts today as follows:
- Masks obligatory: The MHB retains the obligation to wear FFP2 masks inside university buildings, i.e. during instruction and in circulation areas, which applies to teachers and students alike. This is considered an effective instrument to keep the number of infections as low as possible in this medicine associated environment, and corresponds to recommendations by the German Rectors’ Conference, although face masks are no longer generally mandatory at universities according to the new regulations.
- No requirement to document vaccination, recovery or negative test for access to MHB teaching buildings (instruction without patient contact): This means that all persons may enter the university facilities and attend teaching units, irrespective of their status of vaccination, recovery or test. Inspection of pertinent documentation has been suspended. However, the rule continues to hold that individuals showing typical symptoms of an infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus (such as cough, fever, loss of sense of smell and taste) are not permitted to attend instruction in person and to enter MHB buildings.
- Instruction in clinic buildings and instruction with patient contacts: Teaching units in hospital facilities are governed by individual regulations valid on site. This applies in particular to obligatory vaccination for staff in medical facilities; pertinent regulations remain unchanged.
- Keeping distance (distance – hand hygiene – face masks + regular ventilation): Classrooms will be occupied and utilized as usual and without reglementation. Minimum distances from others during instruction are not mandatory. It is, however, recommended to adhere to the above principles of distancing and hygiene inside and outside the university, which include distance to others. Classrooms need to be ventilated on a regular basis. Dispensers of hand sanitisers are available.
- Quarantine and self-isolation: Persons tested positive for the Corona virus must adhere to regulations for quarantine and further testing. Obligatory quarantine does not apply to contact persons who have received a booster vaccination or have recovered or been vaccinated less than three months ago; these may attend instruction. Where clinics have issued deviating regulations in this respect, these will be binding for students in contexts of instruction and vocational training on the premises of these clinics.
We at the Brandenburg Medical School strongly advocate responsible and exemplary action in everyday behaviour in order to avoid risks of infection to ourselves and others.
We shall inform you without delay of any amendments to our hygiene concept that may become necessary due to new decrees issued by the Brandenburg government.
