Thrilling stories around neuroscience – new podcast now online
Neuruppin, 29 April 2026
A new podcast format around neuroscience, psychology and exciting cases from brain research is now online; it started this week under the heading “Neurogeschichten”. Prof. Dr. Bertram Opitz, professor of general psychology, biological psychology and cognitive neuroscience at the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB), and student Janno Hellmann talk about cases which reveal the fascinating qualities and complexities of our brain. How does the brain influence what we feel, decide and do – in everyday life and often without our noticing? This is what the new format is about – easy to understand, interesting, no incomprehensible technical jargon. Short episodes. Actual findings. For everybody who wants to see how human behaviors and experiences work.
The first episode is about American Phineas P. Gage (1823 to 1860). Gage survived a spectacular accident with an iron rod that pierced his skull. He survived but his character changed completely. Prof. Opitz and Janno Hellman talk about Gage’s fate and the implications of this case for our knowledge of brain, personality and behavior.
