Researchers of the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) have moved to the former Corona outpatient department of the Rüdersdorf polyclinic. After several months of rebuilding work, the premises were now officially opened last week.
MHB president Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Uwe Simon and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Edmund Neugebauer (MHB senior professor of outcomes research) welcomed staff and guests in the new facilities and research laboratory, at a future hub, so Prof. Simon, of competence, expertise and investigative spirit.
Alexander Mommert as CEO of the Immanuel Klinik Rüdersdorf noted with pleasure that with the addition of a new team of dedicated employees and researchers the clinic will continue to offer high-quality medical services and future-oriented student training as one of the MHB university hospitals.
Medical research in Brandenburg
The Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane constitutes a milestone in medical research in Brandenburg. Up to the foundation of the MHB in 2014, Brandenburg was the only non-city state in Germany without a medical school. From the outset, the MHB has responded to the new challenges to health care in the State of Brandenburg with innovative learning concepts and a high degree of practice orientation in more than 35 cooperating hospitals and about 200 teaching practices as well as translational research projects. The cooperating hospitals were officially recognized as university clinics association in December 2020, and since then have been continuously expanding research capacities at currently four research centres.
Research facilities in Rüdersdorf
Founded in 2019, the Centre for Health Services Research (ZVF-BB) headed by Dr. Dawid Pieper is one of four scientific centres at the MHB. It is concerned with scientific, instruction-related and organisational tasks in the field of patient and population-oriented outcomes research. One important issue is an optimum of patient care for the ageing population in the region.
The polyclinic also hosts the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology as well as the Rüdersdorf clinic’s research unit for neurology and pain management. The latter facility includes a research laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Also located in Rüdersdorf is the Institute of Health Provision and Health System Research IVGF which coordinates a new Master course in outcomes research (M.Sc.) scheduled to start in Rüdersdorf next autumn.
