Johanniter-Krankenhaus Treuenbrietzen: now academic teaching hospital of MHB
Productive long-term collaboration between specialist hospital and MHB
Neuruppin, 24 July 2023
The Johanniter-Krankenhaus Treuenbrietzen was officially acknowledged as an academic teaching hospital of the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) in July, after years of successful collaboration. Hospital director Mirko Rücker signed the agreement and welcomed the new status of the hospital: “Starting in 2016, we have been offering one scholarship per year to MHB students. Our department of psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics in particular has shown commitment to the training of MHB students. This long-term collaboration between our institutions is now bearing fruit: Patrick Jänchen, the first student sponsored by us, is going to work as an assistant physician in our rheumatism clinic from August. Another MHB graduate, Sophie Wuller, will spend part of her Practical Year in our pulmonary clinic in its 25th anniversary year.”
Sophie Wuller appreciates the hospital with its competent and empathic staff and cordial atmosphere very much. After a medical clerkship in thoracic surgery and oncology there in her fifth semester, the decision was soon made to spend the four-month specialization in internal medicine at the pulmonary clinic in Treuenbrietzen. Right from the start she feels confirmed in her choice by the high quality of training which, so Sophie Wuller, fully meets the MHB concept of student education with heart, head and hand. She enjoys the trusting interdisciplinary cooperation among all departments, the familial atmosphere and the resulting quick decision processes, and she praises the dedication of her mentors as a big benefit for all Practical Year students.
Long-term objective: reinforcement of medical staff
Medical director Dr. Karsten Haitsch describes the basic intention of the specialist hospital of transregional repute as follows: “In addition to high-quality patient care, we offer advanced training to specialists and first-rate education to final-year medical students. To this end we employ the combined medical and technical expertise of all our specialist departments. It is a pleasure to accompany and support students over time and get to know them before they start their professional career, hopefully with us, and discover exciting perspectives for themselves. And a long-term objective is, of course, to reinforce our medical staff and safeguard the future of our hospital. We offer lots of benefits to Practical Year students, such as expense allowance, free lunch, one day per week for studies and regular PY instruction at various specialist clinics. We perceive the official appointment as academic teaching hospital for the MHB as an honour, obligation and necessity, and will continue devoting all our energies to first-class medical training.”
