MHB takes seventh position in Hartmannbund ranking
Neuruppin, 05 July 2019
Competing for the first time in the Hartmannbund ranking of medical training, the department of medicine at the Brandenburg Medical School took seventh position. MHB president Prof. Edmund Neugebauer is highly pleased with the respectable result for Germany’s youngest medical school: “This is an excellent performance in view of the competition of established medical schools. Only 17 out of 38 medical schools nationwide have obtained a position in the ranking.” More than 1,400 medical students had participated in the online ranking. The top position in the ranking which took place for the fourth time again went to Witten/Herdecke University.
Christian Wolfram chairs the medical student committee in the Hartmannbund. „Medical students represented in the Hartmannbund award this prize for the best medical training on a regular basis. The award is meant as an incentive and opportunity for medical schools to improve medical education. The online survey addresses medical students of all semesters alike. We do not differentiate between traditional, reformed and model curricula.”
The focus of the online survey with a total of 60 questions is on the following range of topics:
- support in practical training
- extended teaching formats such as Skills Lab and e-learning
- patient contacts and integration of training stages
- quality of teaching units
- examination / doctoral studies (availability of doctoral projects etc.) and
- compatibility of studies and family (childcare etc.).
Participants in the survey were requested to give ratings from 1 to 6 for each question to achieve comparability. Answers to individual questions were evaluated, average ratings were calculated for each topic area and then summarized to form an overall rating. The medical school with the best overall rating is awarded first place.
In order to ensure a representative result, only those medical schools were included in the ranking for which at least 35 medical students had entered an assessment. 17 out of a total of 38 medical schools in Germany were included in this year’s ranking.
