MHB student team wins team relay competition
5 June 2023
The municipal utility company in Brandenburg an der Havel (StWB) once again sponsored a relay competition for teams of four, where each runner covered 5 kilometers on a route through the city on the river Havel across eight bridges and along numerous places of interest. 243 teams – women, men and mixed – had registered for the event on 25 May this year. Mayor Steffen Scheller started the race under perfect conditions at the stroke of 6 p.m. The Brandenburg University Hospital (UKB), a member of the clinic group associated with the MHB, sent an impressive total of 23 teams.

These medical students formed the MHB team with starting number 137: Sonja Jahnke (9th semester), Jonas Wördemann (9th), Fabian Griep (11th semester/practical year) and Jan Auswitz (13th semester, doctoral studies/research year). The MHB relay team won the mixed race in 1:24:53 hours. This means that the average speed was 14.14 kilometers per hour. The MHB team was greatly pleased with their second victory in a row and an even better performance than last year (2022: 1:27:02).
Thanks go to the MHB sponsors’ association who met registration fees for the team. Prof. Günter Fleischer chairs the association; he congratulates the team on their success and on “this excellent demonstration of endurance sport as a way of health maintenance”. Although next year’s team race is still a long way off, medical student Sonja Jahnke believes it is reasonably possible that her team might participate again.
