MHB student newly elected to national committee of dental students
Jena/Brandenburg an der Havel, 30 May 2025
A student enrolled at the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) now occupies an important position: Rita Bilal, a student of the Brandenburg model course in dental medicine, was elected to the board of the national association of dentistry students (bdzm) at their Jena meeting on 24 May. She is one of the first cohort of dental students to be enrolled at the MHB; the innovative course started in April 2024.
The student body of the University of Jena hosted this year’s meeting which was attended by 31 representatives and almost 250 participants. Five members on the bdzm board were newly elected, and Rita Bilal is going to serve as auditor.
The bdzm is the umbrella organization of student bodies from all 30 departments of dental medicine at German universities and represents the interests of approximately 15,000 students of dental and oral medicine. The board, a committee of volunteers, is elected for a two-year term and currently comprises six members.
The focus of the new board is on continued association work, efficient communication between student bodies and local representations, the creation of a comprehensive information platform and more intensive international collaboration. Topics of particular interest are mental and financial pressures for students and the challenging implementation of revised licensing regulations for dentists as well as state examinations. The election of Rita Bilal has firmly positioned the MHB in student representation at national level.
