MHB project PatientenUniversität reaches final for VPH innovation award

The Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) has reached the final round in the competition for the VPH innovation award with the project PatientenUniversität Brandenburg. The association of private universities (VPH) honors outstanding projects in research, innovation and university development with this prize.

The MHB collaborates with the association Gesundheit Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. and the nationwide network of patient universities in this project. The idea is to improve health competences in the population of Brandenburg and make solid information about health and illness easily available.

The offer is aimed at all who want to live healthily, stay healthy or cope with an illness. Lectures on site and online formats encourage personal exchange at eye level between affected persons, families, experts and interested individuals. The concept was designed together with self-help organizations and other partners from the health sector. Right from the start, the PatientenUniversität Brandenburg has reached numerous people.

Hannah Leichsenring is in charge of the project at the MHB and proud to have reached the final with an innovative approach and much commitment on the part of all involved. The patient university Brandenburg, so Leichsenring, is a novel contribution to improved health competences among the general public in our region – irrespective of age, gender, origin or social condition: “We want to empower people to make competent use of information and actively do something for their health. Our participatory approach constitutes an important and innovative step in healthcare communication.”   

The presidents of the VPH member universities will evaluate the finalists in an online vote in the coming weeks. Projects will be presented at the imminent VPH conference in Berlin, and the winners of this year’s award will be announced on 14 May.
