MHB increases intake of medical students

Neuruppin, 18 August 2022
Starting with the summer semester of 2023, the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB) increases the scope of admissions to the Brandenburg medical model curriculum. The number of openings for prospective medical students will rise from now 48 to a maximum of 74 per semester.
MHB president Prof. Hans-Simon welcomes this opportunity for up to 26 additional newcomers to realize their dreams of studying medicine: “The MHB was founded with the aim to improve the provision of medical care in the State of Brandenburg. The graduates of the first two cohorts who have begun their specialist training at one of our cooperating hospitals in Brandenburg clearly confirm our conviction that we are right on track. In 2015 we started out with 48 medical students per year, and in the winter term of 2019/20 we admitted a further 24. From summer 2020 onwards, the intake per semester doubled to 48. This increase in capacities was in response to the strong demand and served to establish a stable economic basis for organic growth. After careful internal analysis and consultation with our affiliated clinics we are now planning the next development stage with a further expansion of capacities.”
MHB chancellor Dr. Gerrit Fleige points to the favourable impact on students’ finances: “As a non-state funded university we depend on charging tuition fees. However, being a non-profit and public-interest institution, we need not make a profit unlike other private universities. An increased number of admissions permits us to achieve economy of scale effects, reduce costs and pass most of these savings on to new students. Despite necessary investments into infrastructure, despite high current inflation rates and notably increased operating expenses, we are in a position to reduce the total of tuition fees for newcomers by € 7,000, which makes medical studies at the MHB still more attractive in economic terms as well.”
Prof. Simon is confident that, in unison with the founding concept, the increased intake of medical students is setting the right course for the MHB to grow and prosper.
Applications for admission to the Brandenburg medical model curriculum starting in the summer semester of 2023 are invited up to and including 15 October 2022.
