Lecture: Alcohol and Young People – How to protect our children
What causes alcohol addiction, and specifically in youngsters? The constant availability of alcohol may become problematic for adolescents. What are first possible therapy measures? Prof. Johannes Lindenmeyer is going to address these and many further questions in his lecture on efficient prevention of alcoholism in young people, scheduled for Tuesday, 10 December, in Neuruppin. The psychologist and director of the Salus Clinic in Lindow has been exploring the mechanisms of addiction and treating individuals for decades and has developed concepts of addiction therapy. He holds a professorship of clinical psychology at the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB).
The location for the public event series entitled “Neuruppiner Hörsaal” is the Union cinema, Heinrich-Raus-Straße 35, with the Prignitz branch of the Citizens University as organizers. Prof. Lindenmeyer has suggestions for parents and teachers on how to prevent alcohol problems in young people. His lecture will start at 7 pm., and entry is free of charge. Another speaker at the same location is Dr. Daniel Vorpahl, research assistant at the Institute for Instruction in Ethics/Religion, University of Potsdam. In his lecture and subsequent debate with the audience he is going to address religious beliefs and their role in today’s society on Thursday, 21 November, starting at 6 pm.
The last topic to be addressed in the series during the winter term of 2024/25 will be “Charles, the humanoid robot in the doctor’s office”. Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Schrader, professor of medical informatics at the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, is going to present Charles on Wednesday, 22 January 2025, from 6 pm. The robot has already been deployed in a doctor’s surgery in the region in support of medical staff – an interesting experiment from many perspectives. For more information see here.
