Intensified cooperation in health research
Brandenburg an der Havel, 17 September 2025
The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB) organized a 3rd joint workshop which took place on 10 September 2025.
Dr.-Ing. Christian Josef Herglotz (BTU, computer engineering) and Prof. Hendrik Borgmann (director/urology department at the university hospital Brandenburg an der Havel) presented joint project ideas on telemedical micro ultrasound in urological cancer diagnostics. Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schmalz, MHB professor of conservative dentistry and periodontology since October 2024, addressed experts of biotechnology, gerontology and engineering sciences with his lecture on the potentials of material-based research.
Prof. Katrin Scheibner (BTU) and Prof. Frank Hufert (MHB professor of microbiology and virology) invited participants to take part in projects exploring enzyme technology and expression of viral genes. In conclusion of the event, Prof. René Mantke (director/clinic of surgery, university hospital Brandenburg an der Havel) illustrated applications of artificial intelligence in surgery.
BTU vice president (research and transfer) Prof. Michael Hübner summarized the workshop as most interesting and stimulating: “Many potential cooperations were discussed for further consolidation over the coming weeks. The exchange of expertise in the fields of medicine, biotechnology and engineering sciences remains an important issue.”
A continuation of the format is scheduled for next year.
