German Parkinson Association will finance three scholarships for MHB medical students.

The German Parkinson Association (Deutsche Parkinson Hilfe - DPH) will finance three scholarships for MHB medical students. One student is going to receive a grant of approximately € 24,000, which covers tuition fees for two semesters. In addition, the association will co-finance two further scholarships in the context of the Deutschlandstipendium programme.

MHB president Prof. Hans-Uwe Simon is highly pleased with the cooperation for two reasons: “First, we pursue a common objective: we wish to improve the provision of health care for Brandenburg and all other non-city states. Second, the scholarships will support our students and thus help to ensure that studies at the MHB need not depend on tuition fees or costs of living.”

The newly introduced DPH grant is scheduled to go to students with a particular interest in Parkinson research/neurology and a focus on this medical field for a future career after graduation.

DPH chairman Stephan Goericke says the primary aim behind the foundation of the MHB, i.e. to help reduce the deficit of physicians specifically in rural areas, coincides well with the association’s intention of counteracting such deficits in non-metropolitan regions.

The DPH is a non-profit association in support of individuals diagnosed with incurable Morbus Parkinson. The DPH sponsors complementary interventions and therapy places. One focus is on increased social awareness of the illness, another on support for future physicians with a specific interest in the disease.

Applications for the three scholarships at the MHB are scheduled to be invited starting with the summer semester of 2023.
