First research afternoon in Rüdersdorf

The MHB Campus Rüdersdorf hosts about 80 researchers in separate project groups: the first research afternoon offered an opportunity for encounters and exchange.
Which medication is best suited for treatment? Which type of care is appropriate for an ageing society or for rare diseases? And how best to integrate research findings into daily clinical practice?
On the Rüdersdorf campus, these and many further questions are addressed by about 80 researchers of the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB). Founded in 2014, the MHB now offers four different degree programmes at two faculties with more than 50 professorships. The Rüdersdorf campus is the site of one of four associated university clinics, one out of four research centres and one of three MHB key research areas. Six MHB chairs are currently located in Rüdersdorf, with several research bureaus and a professionally equipped laboratory.
Research as the basis of state-of-the-art medicine
Researchers from nine project groups met for the first afternoon of research on site. Presentations of all groups and individual projects were followed by a networking session with snacks on the clinic terrace. Prof. Dr. med. Martin Heinze (Professor of Psychiatry und Psychotherapy and senior physician at the mental health centre/Immanuel Klinik Rüdersdorf) is very satisfied with the first research afternoon on site: “A most instructive afternoon for all MHB research units, and an excellent opportunity to get to know each other and exchange ideas. We shall be pleased to repeat the format and invite our colleagues from the clinic to join in and take some time out from daily routine to discuss topics of relevance to patient treatment.”
Summing up the current situation, Prof. Dr. med. Jens Schmidt (MHB professor of neurology and senior physician at the neurology department of the Rüdersdorf clinic) underlined the remarkable advances so far: “The MHB is still a very young university and as such offers a tremendous chance in terms of proactive and innovative research – let us make the most of it!” He pointed out that successful research is a prerequisite for the provision of best possible patient care in Rüdersdorf and at the other MHB university hospitals.
