First foreign candidate completes doctorate at MHB

Marguerite Yvonne Mainprize from Toronto/Canada is the first international candidate to successfully complete her doctoral procedures at the Brandenburg Medical School. The academic degree of Dr. rer. medic. was awarded on 13 July 2026. Title of her thesis: “Approaching Pain After Groin Hernia Repair: A Complete and Specialized Patient-Centered Treatment Model Based on the Shouldice Hospital”.
The focus of her doctoral thesis is on pain management after surgery for inguinal hernias. She addresses an important topic in the field of general and visceral surgery and the advancement of specialized and patient-centered care. The location for the defense of her dissertation was the clinic of general and visceral surgery at the university hospital in Brandenburg an der Havel with clinic director Prof. Dr. René Mantke as her supervisor.
