First endowed professorship at MHB

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Christian Wenger, medical technology expert at the IHP – Leibniz Institute of Innovative Microelectronics, was appointed professor of microelectronics in medical technology at the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB). Founded in 2014, the Brandenburg Medical School thus reads the digital signs of the time: “Revolutionary changes in medical technology become possible due to an ongoing functionalisation of semiconductor technologies and rapidly increasing complexity of microelectronic components. This opens new chances in medical diagnostics and therapy. We are pleased to have won Christian Wenger for our first endowed professorship, an expert in the field,” so MHB dean Prof. Dr. Edmund A. M. Neugebauer.
Prof. Dr. Wenger graduated in physics and since 2002 has been researching at the IHP where he will keep his position. His declared aim is to improve medical services in rural regions via microelectronic applications. He can now use MHB laboratory facilities to evaluate microelectronic sensors for later application which were designed and developed at the IHP. Health sciences research in Brandenburg will thus be better coordinated with the long-term objective of improving medical services in rural areas.
IHP
The IHP is an institute of the Leibniz community and pursues research and development on silicon-based systems, highest frequency circuits and technologies including new materials. It focuses on innovative solutions for applications such as wireless and broadband communication, security, medical technology, industry 4.0, mobility and space technology. It has a staff of approximately 300. It has a pilot line for technological developments and the preparation of high-speed digital circuits with 0.13/0.25 µm-BiCMOS technologies, housed in a class 1 clean room of 1000 m².
