Edmund Neugebauer receives honorary doctorate from University of Malaga

The University of Malaga (UMA) awarded an honorary doctorate to Prof. Dr. Edmund A. Neugebauer, dean of the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB). The UMA Medical School supported an initiative of their department of surgery to honour Prof. Neugebauer for outstanding merits in research and teaching. The ceremony at the UMA took place on 8 November 2016.
Neugebauer’s scientific work comprises around 900 publications, among them over 300 original papers as well as twelve books. The Hirsch Index, which reflects an author’s number of publications and citations and thus his impact on the scientific community, for Prof. Neugebauer is 67, with a total of more than 20,000 citations.
In his laudation Dr. Manuel Garcia Sillero described Prof. Neugebauer as an outstanding researcher with a broad range of activities in clinical and experimental research, and key interests in polytrauma and neurotrauma research, acute and chronic pain, endoscopic surgery, health service research, patient-centred care, registry, and clinical studies in surgery and evidence-based medicine. Prof. Garcia Caballero (UMA) and Prof. Neugebauer co-authored 18 original articles and three book chapters. A further joint publication on “surgery of obesity” is in preparation.
Prof. Neugebauer is the president of the German Network for Healthcare Research DNZV. He holds a senior professorship for health services research at Witten/Herdecke University and was appointed Dean of the Brandenburg Medical School in September 2016.
