DFG research grant for Dr. Jonathan Nübel
Bernau, 9 September 2024
The German Research Foundation DFG awards the Walter Benjamin grant to Dr. Jonathan Nübel (photo), assistant physician in the cardiology department / Immanuel Klinikum Bernau Herzzentrum Brandenburg and alumnus of the first class of medical students at the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB). He has joined one of the world’s most renowned groups of intensive care researchers in Australia.
The Walter Benjamin program targets outstanding young researchers. The DFG promotes upcoming academics and offers career opportunities via research projects abroad subsequent to completing a doctorate. Grant recipients can pursue individual projects at leading research institutions worldwide and establish international links.
Dr. Jonathan Nübel is going to spend a twelve-month research period at the renowned Flory Institute and the intensive care unit of the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, under the direction of Prof. Clive May, Prof. Yungeesh Lankadeva and Prof. Rinaldo Bellomo. Prof. Bellomo and his team are among the most famous and influential research groups worldwide in the field of intensive care. Key research interests are basic scientific experiments to explore sepsis – life-threatening blood poisoning – and clinical studies on acute renal failure. Dr. Nübel says he feels honored and extremely grateful for this great opportunity to join such an impressive team.
Prof. Dr. Christian Butter, head of the cardiology department, is highly pleased for Dr. Nübel who completed his doctorate at the Immanuel Klinikum Bernau Herzzentrum Brandenburg, and happy to support his scientific progress. He points out that such grants from Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft go to only a few selected recipients: “This confirms the high quality of medical training at our institution.”
Dr. Jonathan Nübel started his research period early in September. On his return in 2025 he is going to add newly-found knowledge to the intensive care expertise at his home clinic and continue his specialist training in cardiology in Bernau.
