Coveted teaching award for Stefanie Oess for the third time in a row

Stefanie Oess, MHB professor of biochemistry, feels pleased and honoured to be again named ‘best instructor’: “I joined the MHB three years ago because I found the innovative concept and the strong practice orientation convincing and was looking for new ways in student education. For biochemistry, this meant a departure from pure factual knowledge and a new focus on overarching concepts and their application in clinical settings. This repeated distinction clearly suggests that we are headed in the right direction.”

5th-year medical student Cindy Stern from the student initiative who introduced the award three years ago explains the student vote: “Biochemistry is not one of the favourite subjects among students. But Prof. Stefanie Oess has repeatedly succeeded in conveying the complicated subject matter in a way that she has definitely earned this award.” The award has the form of a wide belt reminding of a boxing trophy, and is passed on to the new winner each year.

Prof. Andreas Winkelmann (anatomy) was happy with his second place, followed by Prof. Stefan Koch (pathology). Additional distinctions for student instruction went to Giulio De Matteis (Institute of Anatomy), Prof. Dr. Daniel Patschan (nephrology/Städtisches Klinikum Brandenburg) and Dr. Matthias Tregel (director, Institute of Laboratory Medicine/Ruppiner Kliniken).
