Science Minister Dr. Manja Schüle bestowed the right to award doctorates and postdoctoral degrees to the Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) as Brandenburg’s first non-state institution of higher education in Brandenburg an der Havel today. She also presented the notification that state recognition has been extended up to 2031, following the successful accreditation by the Science Council, the Federal and Regional Governments’ science policy advisory board.
The Science Minister praised the practice-based and wholistic training of medical and psychological professionals at the MHB for now more than ten years as an important contribution to ensuring high-quality healthcare in Brandenburg: “I am pleased to say that we are in a position to substantially support the successful development of the MHB by not only continued funding but also the right to award doctorates and postdoctoral lecturing qualifications and the extension of state recognition for another six years. This reflects the splendid development of the university since its foundation and our appreciation of its tremendous contribution to making our university landscape more attractive and Brandenburg’s health system more resistant. We give thanks and wish you every success for the future.”
MHB president Prof. Hans-Uwe Simon: “The right to award doctorates and postdoctoral degrees is a further significant step and an important signal: it underlines our scientific potential and also our key role in the training of urgently needed physicians, dentists and psychotherapists. We are highly pleased with the current and future support of the Brandenburg government.”
