Neuruppin, 6 July 2020
In 2018, MHB students of medicine and psychology decided to assume a kind of sponsorship for a wall at the corner of Fehrbelliner Straße / Karl-Liebknecht Straße and to decorate this wall with graphic designs by Giulio DeMattheis, their anatomy instructor. Their motto: We all have one and the same heart. The wall in the vicinity of the Neuruppin town hall had been repeatedly daubed with right-wing and xenophobic slogans before.
According to 3rd-semester medical student Julia Möschle, the original idea was to set a creative and artistic sign for a peaceful, democratic and diverse Neuruppin: “The wall still looks good after a year and a half, weather-induced damage is surprisingly small. Once again we say thank you to Giulio for his active support, and to many helpful and dedicated fellow students.”
"Neuruppin has no room for racism"
Charlotte Buhre (3rd-semester medical student) adds: “The current worldwide Black Lives Matter movement was another reason to renew and freshen up the wall paintings. We want to underline once again that we support tolerance and open-mindedness in Neuruppin.”
Neuruppin’s mayor Jens-Peter Golde fully endorsed the student initiative as proof of the significance of the Brandenburg Medical School for the town, the region and the entire state of Brandenburg. The event ended with ice-cream for the entire team.
Julia Möschle and Charlotte Buhre are looking forward to future years of sponsorship for the wall and promise to renew their painting activities whenever necessary.
