Integrated Working Group "Molecular Mechanisms in Cardiovascular Disease"
Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in Germany, and the State of Brandenburg reports the highest rates of incidence and mortality in regional comparison. The IAG applies translational approaches and laboratory testing to explore cellular and molecular mechanisms in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disorders.
Our focus is on the identification of new pathogenetic factors and new signal transduction pathways in cardiomyocytes and endothelium, particularly in consideration of Brandenburg’s aging patient population. The IAG relies on a broad joint basis of methodological expertise, and the various groups involved pursue a translational approach to integrate clinical and molecular medicine.
The key research interest of this IAG is vascular and myocardial dysfunction in chronic cardiac and renal disease.
